Tilth Producers of Washington

Tilth Producers is accepting nominations for the 2015 Farmer of the Year and 2015 Advocate of the Year, to be awarded at the Tilth Producers annual conference in Spokane, WA on November 14, 2015.

To nominate a candidate for either award please review the criteria below and then complete the fillable form and return to us via mail, fax or email (information on form); or use an online form to nominate a Farmer of the Year here and an Advocate of the Year here.

The deadline for nominations has been extended to Thursday, October 22, 2015.

Farmer of the Year Award Criteria

The following criteria are considered in evaluating nominees for Farmer of the Year:

Innovations in organic farming and/or livestock management, including crops and crop rotations; weed, pest and disease management, production strategies, or the development of value added products and marketing.

Excellence in enhancing farm resources: soil, water, wildlife, and biodiversity.

Attention to building and preserving soil fertility and tilth.

Inspiration and/or education of organic farmers, consumers and/or others in the organic community.

Adherence to organic and/or sustainable farming practices. Nominee does not need to be certified organic or carry other third-party reviewed certifications.

Advocate of the Year Award Criteria

The following criteria are considered in evaluating nominees for Advocate of the Year:

Personal and/or professional commitment to addressing critical issues that face our regions farmers and farm families.

Promotes outreach to the greater community and helps educate consumers of the value of regional organic foods.

Engages legislators to listen to regional farmers and encourages and/or provides assistance for farmers to visit and communicate with elected representatives.

Inspiration and/or education of organic farmers, consumers and/or others in the organic community.
