Looking for an energetic and knowledgeable individual (or couple) who is looking for a low-risk opportunity to become a farmer and business partner. Just purchased a 15-acre piece of prime farmland southeast of Mount Vernon and need help to transition it from an overgrown tree/shrub nursery into an organic herb (market) and permaculture-based farm. Existing amenities include a barn, five large hoop houses, irrigation, two tractors with tiller, mower, and other small equipment, tools. Need help with managing about 8 acres for weeds and overgrowth of vegetation plus site cleanup and rehabilitating the hoop houses for future production. Would like to plant some perennial herbs, fruit and nut trees, and cover crops in fall, and design spaces and develop business plan (together as partners) in winter. The individual must be able to maintain, operate, and (minor) repair farm equipment, fix irrigation, and be an all round handy person, including some carpentry. Estimate 10-20 hours a week at a negotiable compensation, including possible housing on-site. Can accommodate a trailer with water and power. If long-term partnership, the small farmhouse may be made available. Please contact Elizabeth Walker at contact info below.
