This class will provide practical information about whole farm planning, ecologically-based, diversified production systems, and alternative marketing techniques. Gain knowledge of the practical
aspects of sustainable small acreage production systems for a wide variety of enterprises. The course involves guest lectures from local farmers, field trips, as well as classroom instruction. Students will develop a whole-farm plan during the class.

Topics covered include:

  • Integrated soil fertility management and composting
  • Integrated pest management at the farm level
  • Livestock production based on rotational grazing
  • Whole farm planning, crop planning and, record keeping strategies
  • Evaluating personal and family goals
  • Researching marketing and community resources

Registration is required and a minimum of 10 farms or families are required in order for the course to proceed. Class is held at WSU Pierce County Extension Office, 3602 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98418
Registration is $260 per farm or family (up to 4 individuals). Payment is due the first night of class.
