Dates: May 1, 2014 through October 31, 2014 (dates are flexible)

Diversified food farm near Sequim, WA seeks 3-4 interns for 2014 season. Start dates flexible in May. End date Oct 31. Compensation for full time work  (40-50 hrs/wk) includes room and board in our farmhouse and $400/mth. Shared facilities and cooking responsibilities. Outdoor living could be an option, if preferred. All applicants must have personal health insurance.

Although we do not yet have a name, our farm does have panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, is situated on the Dungeness River, and is a short three miles from protected beaches and bays within the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Opportunities abound for local adventure on land and sea!

2014 will be our second season on our farm and our first season attending local farmers markets. All interns will participate in most aspects of field scale vegetable production. Tasks will include: seeding, soil mixing, hoop house watering, transplanting, hoeing, hand weeding/thinning, harvesting, sorting, washing, packing, and storing. Peripheral projects may include construction/cleanup projects, orcharding, mushroom cultivation, and perennial plantings. At least two interns will be trained and work in field scale irrigation.

Farm residency is currently comprised of two human couples, a team of draft horses, thirty sheep, four cows, three dogs, a cat and one pygmy goat. Although animal care opportunities will be available to all interns, we are looking for one intern to specialize in animal care. This person should be eager to engage in the regular tasks of haying/feeding, stock watering, leading animals, moving electric fence, fence maintenance, t-post driving and pulling, and weed whipping. This person also will assist with worming, vaccination, hoof care, record keeping, lambing, docking, castration, and the training and handling of two livestock guardian dogs. Persons with interest/experience in the arts of tai chi, aikido and muay thai are encouraged to apply for the animal care position. Study and practice of these arts will be informally available on farm to any interested interns. Formal aikido training is available in our community.

The season upon us is a fantastic opportunity to cultivate friendship, manifest vision, and achieve goals. All in the context of feeding people and stewarding land. If you feel excited to join us, we would love to hear from you!
