Goose and Gander Farm is a small, diversified vegetable farm located in the beautiful Snoqualmie River Valley just outside Seattle. This will be our fourth season farming in the Snoqualmie Valley. In January of this year we purchased property here, and are currently in the process of moving the farm to its new home. This season will be an important one for the long term health of our business and we are looking for a few great employees to help us grow great food this summer. We sell our products through our CSA, area farmers markets in Seattle and Bellevue, several restaurants and our soon to be built on-farm stand.

Internship Details: We are looking for open minded and hard working employees this season. We are hoping to find workers who want to live at the farm, and will give preference those who are able to do so. Employees should expect to be involved in very aspect of our operation from greenhouse seeding to selling at farmers markets. Farm work is hard work. We have an expectation that each employee is aware of this fact and will communicate with us throughout the season about their needs so we can all remain healthy and productive.

Previous experience on other farms is preferred, but not required. However, a desire to learn, clear communication skills and a love of food are a must. Applicants must be physically fit and able to lift 40+ pounds. They must be able to listen and take direction, be attentive to detail, receive periodic feedback with an open mind, and use that feedback to improve their skills.

We provide all food for employees who choose to live on the farm. Everything we grow (vegetables, fruits, herbs, eggs, chicken, pork and honey) are available to you. In addition, we trade our products for farmers market goodies such as bread, cheese and other meats, as well as provide pantry items such as olive oil and grains. We are an omnivorous household.

Housing is provided in our 1907 farm house. The house has 2 bathrooms and each employee will have their own private room (furnished if needed.) The house is for the sole use of employees, we live in a separate small trailer on the property. Laundry and internet are provided. Cooking and cleaning employee living areas are the responsibilities of the employees. We strive to have a communal lunch and or dinner several days per week.

Educational Opportunities: We are an open book and are looking for workers who are interested in learning every aspect of how a farm is run, and who may want to start their own farms one day. From our planning processes, to bookkeeping, to tractor maintenance, we aim to give our employees the opportunity to gain as much on the job knowledge as they are interested in. We are currently considering joining the new Washington State internship program for farmers.

Rate of Pay: Employees will be paid WA state Minimum wage, currently $9.47, with a deduction of $600 per month for room and board. We do our payroll by the rules, deducting state and federal taxes each month as well as paying our portion of social security, medicare, unemployment insurance and L&I, the state’s on the job injury coverage.

Please contact us by phone or email and be prepared to talk about your prior work history, and why you’d like to work at our farm.  You can find more information about our philosophy and how we started farming on our website.
