Hogsback Farm on Vashon Island
Posted on: 12/14/2012 5:24 pm
Dates: March 4, 2014 through October 31, 2014 (dates are flexible)Hogsback Farm is located on Vashon Island, a ferry ride away from Seattle. We are a small, family-owned farm that has been providing food for our community for close to twenty years. We grow a wide variety of vegetable crops using ecologically-minded techniques, in addition to pastured chickens for eggs. We sell our crops through our on-site farmstand, at the Vashon Farmers Market, and through our on-island CSA. We also have a small orchard and some berries.
We seek to give interns a wide-ranging training, from seed to sale. All aspects of running a small farm will be included in the internship. Potential interns must be hard-working, self motivated, and willing to take on extra projects and tasks when necessary. A positive sense of humor is also welcome. No prior farming experience is necessary, although it will be considered during the application process.
The internship is full-time, 40-50 hours a week. We work a five day work week, although extra work is occasionally required outside of that week. The start date is somewhat flexible, although we are looking for interns that can commit to the entire season, through October. Compensation is $400 a month plus a bonus paid at the end of the season. On-site housing is included as well as food from the farm.
