Consumer interest in locally grown cut flowers is on the rise. Join farmers Diane Szukovathy and Dennis Westphall for an on-farm workshop in flower production. Located in Mount Vernon, the seven-acre Jello Mold Farm produces flowers for local markets. Diane is also President of the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market, a cut flower producer’s cooperative that sells directly to florists, store chains and professional venues. She and Dennis bring their artistic talents and decades of gardening and business experience to flower production and marketing. Floral crops in production during mid summer include dahlias, sunflowers, garden perennials, annual grasses and woody stems for cut foliage. The workshop will cover planning, infrastructure, fertility, pest control and marketing.
