The Future of Tilth

We are thrilled to share our new name with you – welcome to Tilth Alliance!

Created through the recent merger of three nonprofits – Seattle Tilth, Tilth Producers of Washington, and Cascade Harvest Coalition – Tilth Alliance remains committed to the work of building a better food culture in Washington.

Tilth Alliance LogoOur name reflects the critical need for strengthening alliances among farmers, purveyors and eaters. We firmly believe that we must work together to guarantee the growth of a healthy food culture that cares for the environment, provides living wages for farmers and increases access to nutritious whole foods for all people.

Much has changed over the course of our shared history, which covers more than four decades of nurturing a healthy local food movement. What was once the domain of trailblazing producers and eaters – food grown using sustainable or organic practices – is now the fastest growing segment of the food marketplace. But it’s not just economics that drives this shift. Whether growing or eating, people are turning to healthy whole foods for personal, ethical, environmental and community reasons.

Tilth Alliance’s focus remains the same as when our movement began in the 1970s – improving the way food is grown, brought to market and consumed. Given the growing complexity of demographic, political, economic and ecological factors, we are re-imagining our role within the communities we serve. For our food culture to be truly sustainable, we must maximize opportunities locally and regionally, while endeavoring to shape how the marketplace grows, and ensuring all people can share in it.

Our new web address is www.tilthalliance.org. The web content of the organization you’ve interacted with over the years remains the same for now. A new site with integrated functionality will be designed and launched over the next 18-24 months.

Our email addresses have changed to [email protected] as of today, though the old emails will continue to be functional. Be sure to add our new emails to your contact lists. As we develop our statewide network of regional representatives over the next few months, we will share their contact information.

The organizational structure adopted during the 2016 merger – earth, farm, garden, market and kitchen programs – remains the same.

Our office location, phone, and fax numbers are also the same:
4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98103
Phone: (206) 633-0451

The Tilth Alliance vision depends on a strong network of people in towns across the state, stewarding the earth and working on behalf of local farmers, eaters and cooks. We believe our name and logo exemplify the interconnectedness of individuals’ roles within the food system, while being firmly planted in the tenets of the Tilth movement’s founders that producers and consumers, urban and rural, rich and poor must all be at the table, and that healthy soil is the foundation of it all.
