We are a small family diversified farm of sixty acres. All the land is certified organic (CO). We raise CO produce, CO fryers, and naturally raised beef cattle, sometimes pigs, and layer chickens and ducks. We have an ancient orchard. It is our goal to become as sustainable as possible in the use of the land, our finances, and our social contract.
We expect that you will participate in the various aspects of our farm. Since we are a CSA, working in that area will be important. We expect that you will participate in the Farm Store and the Farmers Markets occasionally. Maintenance and upkeep around the farm, farmhouse, and your living quarters will be part of the job. We have a USDA exempt poultry processing facility on our farm and butcher about 150 fryers every three weeks eight times from June through the end of October. You will be expected to participate.
We will expect you to work with the animals, and help build and repair chicken tractors, fencing, and the-what-have-you that makes a farm run. You must have a feel and tolerance for animals and animal husbandry, which is constant and different for each species. In addition to the livestock, we have livestock guardians, and other animals. Our infrastructure is old, and we are working to improve it, but that is an ongoing process. Because of the age of our buildings and the forest, there is no smoking anywhere.
We respect people’s issues and have hyper allergic people on the farm, so there are two definite restrictions: absolutely no peanuts or tobacco. Farming is a 24/7 lifestyle. We are interested in working with people who have some farming experience and want to have their own farm, as well as having an easy and friendly way.
