2011 21.3 Tilth Annual Conference

Mark your calendars for the 2011 Tilth Producers Annual Conference at the Yakima Convention Center, November 11-13. This year’s conference is bigger than ever with multiple Friday Symposia and 30 workshops over the course of the weekend. Friday features a full day WSU symposium on organic dryland agriculture, a micro-dairy class and fieldtrip to Tieton, plus two half-day research and policy symposia. Workshops address the theme of “Designing Resilient Farms for a Changing Planet,” and cover topics such as Farming with a Family, Building Greenhouses for a Changing Climate, Draft Horse Power, Chicken and Turkey Roundtable, Raising Fruit Sustainably, Soil Nutrient Cycling, and Farm to Cafeteria Opportunities. The keynote speaker is Agro-Ecology Professor at UC Berkeley, Miguel Altieri. Miguel’s wife, Clara Nicholls, will present a workshop on Managing Habitat for Biological Pest Control as part of a five- workshop Spanish track.

Per usual, we’ve planned a rip-roaring good time before, after, and in between the learning. Friday night holds an intergenerational mixer hosted in partnership with the Washington Young Farmers Coalition. Saturday will be our annual organic wine tasting and silent auction, followed by a sit-down dinner, foot-tapping live band, and a showing of the Greenhorns documentary film.

Remember to save some energy for the annual meeting and board elections Sunday morning. Hope to see you there!
