2011 21.3 WOW! September 11-17, 2011

Celebrate Washington Organic Week (WOW!) with Tilth Producers this September 11-17th. The goal of WOW! is to teach the public about the environmental, economic, and nutritional values of organic agriculture. The best way we know how to do that is to help folks get to know you – Washington’s Organic Farmers! Send us a photo of you on your farm with a blurb about why you choose to farm the way you do, and we’ll get it on our WOW! website, www.washingtonorganicweek.com.

The Seattle City Council is issuing a declaration recognizing WOW! this year and we are asking Governor Gregoire to officially proclaim September 11 – 17th as Washington Organic Week. We will educate the public with advertisements, media, public service announcements, retail store events, social media campaigns and a special WOW! website: www.washingtonorganicweek.com.

We partner with other organizations during WOW! to promote organic growers in Washington. PCC Farmland Trust is having a WOW! promotion Farm Tour on September 17th. Plan an event in your area! We will have buttons, postcards and other resources available to help you promote WOW! and local events in your neck of the woods.

FORKS UP FOR FARMERS

WOW! is also hosting Forks Up for Farmers, an annual fundraising event where in partnership with farm friendly restaurants. We will drive diners out to eat at our partner restaurants in exchange for a 10% donation. Forks Up for Farmers is Tuesday, September 13th and we need your help recruiting restaurants to participate. If you sell to restaurants, encourage them to be part of Forks Up for Farmers – they can sign up online at
www.washingtonorganicweek.com. Last year 12 restaurants participated, and this year we are hoping to double that number. With you advocating on our behalf, we will meet that goal and have Forks Up for Farmers restaurants all across the state!

ORGANIC COCKTAIL CONTEST

Another special WOW! event is our annual organic cocktail contest. Bartenders from across the state submit recipes featuring Washington organic liquors and produce. This year Kathy Casey, Tom Douglas, and Mike Seely, beverage editor of Seattle Weekly, will select four finalist cocktails for the public to taste on Monday, September 12th. Tini Bigs in downtown Seattle hosts the public tasting and provides a kickback to Tilth Producers for every drink sold. Submit a recipe, or plan to join us. Learn more at www.washingtonorganicweek.com.

PARTICIPATE IN WOW!, IT’S A SNAP
