S&S Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Homestead Farm
“A Biodynamic Whole Farm Organism”
S&S Homestead is a 50-acre, education-based farm continually working towards self-sufficiency. Our goal is to feed ourselves, our animals, and our soil from farm-grown resources, as well produce our own electricity and water, and wood products from our small forest.
A highly diversified farm, we offer interns involvement in all aspects of the whole farm organism: vegetable production and seed saving, operating a whole diet CSA, vending at the local farmers market; beef and dairy, sheep, chicken, pig and bee husbandry, pasture management and composting; hay making; grain production and baking long-fermented bread and pizza in a wood fired oven; cooking and food fermentation; dairying, cheese and butter making in our state-licensed facility; wool processing, wood working, fence building, and machine maintenance; hosting farm stays, leading educational workshops, and teaching farm-to-school classes.
Beginning as early as April (and no later than June), we have two openings for 6-9 month interns to join our current two apprentices, looking to hone their farming skills and learn what it means to work on a biodynamic farm practicing home-based economics. In compensation, we offer free room and any food the farm produces in season, as well as a small stipend.
