Part-Time Internships Offered
Posted on: 01/01/2016 8:04 amDates: March 1, 2016 into July through October 15, 2016 to November 22 (dates are flexible)
Summer Run Farm is located in the Snoqualmie Valley near Carnation, a 50 minute drive from Seattle. The 20 acres is used predominately for row crops but also includes 5 acres fenced for cattle. Summer Run has been selling at farmer’s markets for the past 13 years. We enjoy focusing our time and attention on garlic. As an experienced farmer who has made a living in my fields, I can offer interns an opportunity to learn all aspects of small farm work and organization. Interns who start in the spring will begin working in the greenhouse, then move to the fields for transplanting, weeding, trellising, tomato greenhouse work, and more. In the summer we focus on harvesting, processing, and sales. Interns will be given opportunities to work at a farmers’ market Sundays and learn the ins and outs of sales, set up, and customer service. Folks who are enthusiastic about working hard in the soil regardless of weather conditions, like to work independently, enjoy taking on responsibilities, and learning, will do well here. Second year or experienced farm interns are encouraged to apply. We can work together to round out your farm experience, set new goals, and fill in gaps if possible. This is a great opportunity for people who perhaps have other goals or responsibilities in their life, because the number of hours offered to each intern is limited. My preference and experience has taught me to keep help to about a 35 hour week to avoid burn out. I’m offering 2 days a week to start and up to 4 days a week as we get busy.
