Present Tense Farm is a mixed vegetable farm situated in the Snoqualmie River Valley, about 25 miles outside Seattle. Our farm is diverse in terms of both crops and markets. We grow everything from salad greens, herbs and heirloom tomatoes to rutabaga, cucumbers and komatsuna. We sell direct to local eaters through our weekly farmers markets, chef-driven restaurants and the Snoqualmie Valley Farmers Cooperative. We appreciate the growing interest in agriculture that honors ecological practices and those that are drawn to it for the rewarding work that it is… We (Jayme and Neil) met as farm apprentices ourselves. We know that our experience was invaluable exposure to the work that we love, and are committed to providing that experience for others.
Our opportunities are designed to involve you in the full scope of the work we do, and to give you a realistic idea of the amount of labor and planning involved. All of the work that we do is taught through instruction and repetition.
As a crew member, you can expect to be involved in all facets of our farm, but dedicated to a specific role: Restaurant, Production or Farmers Market Lead. If crew members are interested in learning more about the financial and production planning involved, we are transparent, and will share a behind-the-scenes look at things.
Agricultural experience is not required. The most important attributes are your positivity, enjoyment of physical work and eagerness to learn what it takes to go from seed to market. We are seeking crew members who have strong communication skills, attention to detail, work efficiently, and can accept a bit of constructive criticism. We ask that you are in good physical shape and are ready to engage.
Farming is rarely a 9-5, 40-hour/week endeavor. However, rest and days off are important and a welcome sight at the end of each week. We expect our crew members to work five days/week, 6-8 hours/day with an occasional weekend market during the spring months. As we find ourselves in peak season, you can expect some days to be between 9-10 hours.
$1200 – $1400/per month, paid bi-weekly through direct deposit. Farm vegetables are available for personal consumption.
