The diverse forests of the Pacific Northwest are home to trees, plants, lichens, fungi and other organisms that are prized for many different uses. Woodland owners can steward their land to yield a range of highly-valued products including materials for the wildcraft movement, food and medicinal plants, firewood, and specialty-wood products including veneer, figured wood and pole-quality timber. In this class you’ll learn about the age-old practice of collecting plant materials in their natural habitat for food, medicine, and craft and established and emerging wild product industries in the Northwest. You’ll also learn about niche markets available to forest owners and differences between selling a veneer-grade log at pulp prices instead of the market premium. We’ll also discuss small-scale milling and how to harvest and transform wood from your forest into valuable products. Learn more and register.
