Innovative Marketing Models
Berman, Barrentine, Simon

Small farm viability often hinges upon successful direct marketing and innovation. Fred Berman and Patrice Barrentine of WSDA Small Farms and Direct Marketing Program will highlight the accomplishments and marketing strategies of several farms in Washington and     Oregon. From cheese production to specialty crops, value-added ciders and jellies to pastured poultry, whether marketing your CSA, farm stand, farmers market booth, or products to retailers or restaurants, there will be models to inspire you and strengthen your own business. They will look at inventive displays, eye-catching signage, value-added labeling, packaging dos and don’ts, great CSA newsletters, stellar websites, and how to find niches for your products and market your business. Fred and Patrice will also look at the ingenious collaborations between producers and buyers such as that of Mike Simon of Apple Cart in Tonasket.  Mike  will discuss the formation of the Okanogan  Producers Marketing Association (OPMA), its first grant-funded year of operation, the farms involved, and new directions for the project as    it evolved.
