Pasture based laying duck and chicken farm Internships

Sky Valley Family Farm is located in Startup, Wa which is about 45 min NE of Seattle and about 40 min from Stevens Pass. We are a fourth generation 40 acre organic and pasture based farm that raises laying ducks, laying chickens and meat chickens. We are Washington States leading pasture raised duck egg farm using a model that we developed based on duck herding very similar to the way ducks have been raised in Southeast Asia for thousands of years. We handle every aspect of our chickens and ducks including raising, processing and marketing ensuring you an opportunity to see and learn all aspects of a working egg farm. We sell at several farmers’ markets, several large health food stores, restaurants and a buying club so you will certainly see how to build markets as well as maintain the ones we have.

For the 2015 Season we are looking at hiring 2 interns or a couple. We are looking for honest, hard working, drug-free individuals that have an interest in animals and pasture based farming. We expect that you will work 40-50 hours per week and will be involved in and trained in every aspect of the farm. Housing is provided in our farmhouse either in bunk beds (if single) or in your own room (if a couple). Most meals each week will be provided.  A monthly stipend of $400 will be paid for the first month with a $50 raise for each following month. You will generally work 5 days per week, but occasionally you may be required to work a 7 day week. There are endless hiking options as well as world class fishing opportunities all very close to our farm.  Farming experience in not required, but it is important that you have a desire to learn and have good listening and communication skills. You must have a valid driver’s license and have the ability to lift 65 lbs. Our goal is that you come out of this experience with the tools and knowledge to start your own farm, if you so desire.
