Many laws, policies, and government programs impact growers, and the best of these policies and programs allow farmers to succeed at what they do best – farm. However, most farmers would rather be working in the fields than reading policy briefings or sitting through hearings. Tilth Producers pays close attention to what’s happening in the policy realm on behalf of Washington’s organic and sustainable growers. We make sure farmers’ voices are heard. That happens in the form of email action alerts, policy updates and blog posts, plus opportunities to be directly involved. We co-host an annual lobby day in Olympia and provide direct advocacy in Olympia, Washington D.C., and on farms in legislators’ Washington districts.

Together, our farmers’ voices are powerful and can bring about the change we need to build a sustainable food future! In the words of Tilth Producers of Washington board member, Addie Candib: “Advocacy changes lives, and it changed mine. But if farmers are going to advocate for ourselves at the policy level, we need coaches. Someone to tell us where and when to show up and what to say. That’s why Tilth’s policy work is so important.”
