2007-C2 No-Till Organic Farming Systems: Potential and Current Experience

No-Till Organic Farming Systems: Potential and Current Experience
Huggins

Both organic and no-till farming systems claim the sustainable agriculture title despite large, fundamental differences between working farms, particularly with respect to tillage and agrichemicals.  Can these differences be overcome to develop no-till organic farming systems?  We  will explore what is currently known about no-till organic farming systems and what is being tried in a variety of agricultural settings including row crops, field crops and integration with livestock.  Experiences, cultural practice integration, and farm evaluation will be emphasized including topics such as equipment, crop rotations, soil health, cover crops, profitability and ecosystem services.   Join Dave Huggins, WSU Crop and Soil Scientist, for this survey of current practice and potential future no-till systems.
